Underaged drinkers at lakes targetted

Saturday, April 19, 2008

Wildlife officers with the Kansas Department of Wildlife and Parks will be cracking down on underage drinking at Kansas public lakes this year.

The officers will be conducting enforcement operations looking specifically for underage drinkers and partying at Osage State Fishing Lake, Lyon County Fishing Lake and Melvern and Pomona Reservoirs. The operations are funded through a grant from the Kansas Department of Transportation.

Last year, similar operations netted arrests for minors possessing or consuming alcohol and possession of drugs and drug paraphernalia.

“The natural resources officers will be conducting these enforcement efforts to keep our local natural areas safe and clean and to help prevent tragedies that too often occur at such parties,” said Dave Adams, natural resource officer.

Please check out Olpe Lake as well. I know for a fact a lot of partying and kids engaging in sexual acts goes on there. I have caught several kids doing things they shouldn't. And not all of them from Olpe either, so please don't bash on Olpe kids!

Excellent news! As a guy who likes to fish the local lakes at night and early in the morning, you would not believe some of the things I have seen and been forced to avoid. I finally started carrying a concealed handgun to protect myself from groups of young drunks flexing their beer muscles. At Lyon County Lake, near Reading, most of my problems were with rowdies who didn't speak English. Luckily, they did understand the gaping bore of a snubnose .44. An old retired guy shouldn't have to arm him self just to do a little fishing at a public lake. I hope this crackdown works so area lakes will once again be places of peace, quiet, and relaxation where families and old fogeys like me don't have to be subjected to public sexual behavior or be harrassed and threatened by gangs of cowardly punks.
