Morris County
According to a news release from the University of Kansas, researchers at the Kansas Geological Survey, based at the University of Kansas, have received funding from the U.S. Geological Survey to map the geology in four Kansas counties including Reno, McPherson, Harvey and Morris Counties. The $206,000 award, given for 2008, will be matched by state funding to support ongoing geologic mapping projects in the four-county area.
The maps will illustrate rock layers and unconsolidated materials, such as sand and gravel, at the surface or just below the vegetation and soil.
Burlington
The Coffey County Republican reported that Burlington has hired two police officers. The Burlington City Council approved the hiring of two police officers when they met on April 2.
Police Chief Doug Jones said a committee recently interviewed three candidates and recommended offering positions to two of the candidates.
Chase County
The Chase County Leader-News reported that Chase County Emergency Medical Services Director Bob Burright told the Chase County Commission that the county’s new ambulance will be delivered soon. Burright said the manufacturer had notified him that the ambulances will come off the line the first week of May.
