Drug stop in Lyon Co. brings federal indictment

A federal grand jury returned an indictment this week against an Iowa man who was arrested in Lyon County on March 22. The grand jury was convened in Topeka.
Jose Angel Monsivais-Castillo, 37, Hampton, Iowa, is charged with possession with intent to distribute approximately 3 kilograms of cocaine. The crime is alleged to have occurred March 22, 2008.
If convicted, Monsivais-Castillo faces a penalty of 5 to 40 years in federal prison and a fine up to $2 million, according to a news release from the office of U.S. Attorney Eric Meldren in Wichita. The Drug Enforcement Administration investigated. Assistant U.S. Attorney James Brown is prosecuting.
