Water and energy
A public symposium, “Water in the Production of Energy,” will be held at 7 p.m. Wednesday in the Emporia Public Library.
Speakers will answer questions such as “Where does your water come from? How is your water used?”
Bill Eastman of Westar Energy and Susan Stover of the Kansas Water Office will present the program, which is sponsored by the League of Women Voters of Emporia and the Emporia Public Library.
Brownback visits
U.S. Senator Sam Brownback will visit Coffey, Allen, Neosho and Wilson counties Monday as part of his tour of all 105 Kansas counties. He will attend a Coffey County Town Hall meeting at 10 a.m. Monday in Burlington at the Coffey County Hospital, Allen Woods conference room 2, 801 N. Red Hatters anniversary
The Emporia Red Hatters will celebrate the 10th anniversary of the Red Hat Society with a birthday party and luncheon at noon April 26 at the Flinthills Mall, with the luncheon catered by the Olpe Chicken House. There also will be a cakewalk and prizes and a Red Hat parade through the mall. The event costs $10, payable at the door. The Emporia Red Hatters group was formed in 2004 and currently has five subgroups that meet at various times. Quarterly, the entire group gathers for a meal and activities. Linda Johnson is the Queen Baguette or leader of the large group. For more information, call her at 343-6618. The dress is a red hat and purple dress; there are no dues and no rules. New members are welcome. The Red Hat Society is a national organization for women, especially those over 50, for fellowship and fun.
