As part of Emporia State University’s second annual Green Week event, the ESU Young Democrats and Environmental Club are hosts for a special panel of Kansas leaders to discuss the state’s current energy policies. The panel discussion is 12:30 p.m. Tuesday in the Kanza Room of ESU’s Memorial Union.

The highlight of the panel is Lt. Gov. Mark Parkinson, co-chair of the Kansas Energy Council and chair of the Kansas Wind Working Group.

“It is important for Emporia State students to learn about the role the state plays in setting our environmental policies,” said Rachel Reeves, president of ESU Young Democrats. “We must ensure that our Kansas leaders are providing us with a healthy future.”

Other panelists include representatives from the Kansas Corporation Commission, Westar, the Great Plains Alliance for Clean Energy, and the Kansas Sierra Club. The panelists will discuss not only the current policies on Kansas energy, but also the state’s projected future.

Emporia State’s Green Week event is devoted to bringing awareness about environmental issues to the ESU campus. Students have the opportunity to take part in a variety of activities that teach individual responsibility and attend events that educate about current environmental issues.

The Lieutenant Governor hisself, eh? The one and only chairman of the Governor's energy advisory committee, you say. Maybe that one of those young Democrats can ask him about all those jobs, taxes, cheaper energy, highway money and school aid that she wants to send to another state just so that those eastern liberals might take kindly to her being vice president of these here United States. But wait - if the Governor gets to be the vice, and ain't the Governor anymore, who all did you say would be the Governor? Really? You don't say.
