Emporia State University’s Young Democrats and Environmental Club are presenting the second annual Green Week, a week’s worth of events that bring environmental awareness to ESU students. Green Week begins Monday and runs through April 25. Earth Day is Tuesday.
“This year’s Green Week event will be even better than last year,” says Rachel Reeves, president of ESU Young Democrats. “Not only do we have excellent speakers, fun activities, and great prizes, but we show students how they can take personal responsibility in helping our future.”
The planned events are:
• Monday — campus cleanup; students are invited to walk around campus and pick up trash.
• Tuesday — a discussion with state leaders including representatives from the Kansas Corporation Commission, Westar, the Sierra Club, the Great Plains Alliance for Clean Energy, and Lt. Gov. Mark Parkinson.
• Wednesday — showing of the critically acclaimed movie “Who Killed the Electric Car.”
• April 24 — picnic where students can enjoy free food, performances by local bands, a crafts corner and win eco-friendly prizes.
Students can enter to win the prizes by bringing in their recycling to the Memorial Union during the week. The table will also provide information on recycling in the Emporia community, as well as informing students about what they can do to help protect the environment.
