Sleeping in boxes

Students will raise money for the Emporia Rescue Mission by sleeping in boxes on the front lawn of the Didde Catholic Campus Center from Friday through Sunday. Donations can be sent to the center at 1415 Merchant St. or taken to the center from noon Friday until 10:30 a.m. Sunday.

Ham dinner

The Olpe United Methodist Church will serve ham, chicken, potatoes, salads and desserts from 5:30 to 8 p.m. Saturday. Beverages will be provided. The cost will be a free will donation, with all proceeds to go into the building fund. For more information, call Lucille Barb at (620) 475-3863.

Music, popcorn and lemonade

The 2nd Annual Popcorn and Lemonade Concert will be held at 7 p.m. Sunday at the Lebo United Methodist Church. Popcorn and lemonade will be served while a variety of entertainment is presented. The Junior and Senior choirs, the Joyful Ringers, instrumental and vocal solos and a number of surprises will be presented. A donation for the Church Music Fund will be accepted.

Homes tour

The annual spring Homes Tour to benefit Hand-in-Hand Hospice will be from 2 to 5 p.m. May 4. Tickets are $8 in advance and $10 at the door. There are four homes on this year’s tour. Tickets can be purchased at any of the CoreFirst Bank locations; the Newman Regional Health gift shop, 1201 W. 12th Ave.; Hand-in-Hand Hospice, 1015 Industrial Road; Dayton’s Hobbies, 811 Commercial St.; and the Medicine Shoppe, 2715A Candlewood Drive.

The Gazette will run a two-part feature on each of the homes starting on April 25.

Blessing of the bikes

A free lunch, live music by Sweetwater and Guests, and a blessing of the bikes will be part of the First Annual Bike Show and Recognition Rally on April 27 at the First Baptist Church, Eighth Avenue and Constitution Street. The event is sponsored by the church, with support from CMA Heartland Samaritan Riders, Patriot Guard Riders and Civil Air Patrol Color and Honor Guards.

The church’s youth will serve breakfast from 8:30 to 10:30 a.m. The cost will be a free-will donation.

Registration at no cost will start at 9 a.m., and donations will be accepted. Viewing and voting for people’s choice winners will start at 9:30 a.m.

A service and recognition of all military and service personnel is planned at 10:45 a.m., with awards presented at 11:30 a.m.

A blessing of the bikes ceremony will be held at 11:45 a.m., followed by a free lunch that will include hamburgers, hot dogs, desserts and beverages. T-shirts will be sold for $10, with proceeds going to the Youth Movement.

Sponsorships and donations for door prizes are still being accepted.
