The Emporia High girls soccer team saw its four-game winning streak come to an end Tuesday night, as Seaman defeated the Lady Spartans, 1-0, at TRYSA.
Seaman’s Kelly Zachariasen gave the Lady Vikings the victory with her goal in the 37th minute, as she got past the Emporia defense and cashed in with a goal that proved to be the game-winner.
“They got a really nice goal in the first half,” EHS coach John Decker said. “Their girl got around us and had a one-on-one with our goalie, and she got off a hard, crisp shot. Melanie (Nuessen) actually got her hand on it, but she couldn’t come up with it.”
Emporia couldn’t respond, with a shot on goal with 2 seconds left in the game the final desperation attempt for the Lady Spartans, who fell to 5-4 on the season.
“We played a pretty good game. Seaman’s just a good team,” Decker said. “We played hard and we finished the game out strong. We just came up empty-handed.”
Emporia will have almost a week off before playing host to Topeka West on Monday.
