Emporia State University will pay tribute once again to its late longtime controller, John Blaufuss, with the third annual Blaufuss Memorial Run/Walk on Saturday.
The event begins in front of Sauder Alumni Center, 1500 Highland St., at 7:30 a.m. Participants may either run a 5K race or walk two miles. Registration costs $15 in advance or $20 on the day of the two races.
Mike Crouch, development officer for the ESU Advancement Office, said a little more than 100 runners and walkers were registered Tuesday morning; the goal is 200.
“This is a really neat course,” Crouch said. “The whole thing stays on the Emporia State campus, and of course we all know how beautiful Emporia State is in the springtime, when the flowers are starting to bloom. So I think it’ll be a nice, enjoyable Saturday morning run around campus.”
Those wishing to see the route of the run can view it on the Internet at www.emporia.edu/saf/foundation/annualscholarshipdrive.html.
Blaufuss worked for the university for more than 30 years before being killed by a drunk driver in December 2005. The first memorial run in his memory took place the following spring.
