Hamilton prom

The Hamilton High School Junior-Senior Prom will be Saturday in the school gymnasium. The junior class will be the hosts. Promenade is at 6 p.m., after which there will be a photography session. The banquet will be at 7 p.m. and the dance from 8 p.m. to midnight. Those wishing to see the promenade are welcome. The promenade participants will begin arriving at the west door of the elementary building between 5:20 and 5:30 p.m. and move to the kindergarten room for the grand promenade. The prom theme is “Midnight in Paris”; the photographer is Chandra Allen of Emporia and music will be played by Maxout Entertainment of Emporia.

Saying good-bye

There will be a Farewell reception from 2 to 4 p.m. Saturday at the Horizon Plaza, 1531 Wheeler St., for Lorena Hunt. She is moving to Arkansas.

Turning Point open house

An open house for potential students and their parents is scheduled at Turning Point Learning Center, located in the Kansas Avenue building, 315 S. Market St. The event will be from 6 to 8 p.m. Monday.

Turning Point, a kindergarten through eighth-grade charter school, offers education in-class with teachers present and online through its virtual classes.

Ginger Lewman, on-site coordinator, said that she anticipates the number of students to triple for the coming school year.

During the open house, current students will demonstrate a giant, room-sized inflatable cell they made. Also on display will be the art, music, and global connections programs.

Disability issues

The community is invited to attend a meeting of the RCIL Friends, a group of people with disabilities, to learn about disability-related issues. The meeting will be held at 6:30 p.m. April 23 at the Emporia Public Library, 110 E. Sixth Ave. The featured speaker will be Basil Kessler of Kansas Assistive Technology Cooperative—Financial Services (KATCO). For more information, call 342-1648.

Seminar

The Administrative Professional Day Seminar and Luncheon will be held from 11:30 to 1 p.m. April 23 at the Flint Hills Technical College. The cost is $27. The program, “Hatitude,” will be about a “Dozen Life Lessons.” Hosts are the IAAP Heartland Chapter and FHTC Office Professionals. For more information, call Nadine at 343-6473.

Energetic water

Where does your water come from? How is your water used? Those questions and more will be answered April 23 at the “Water in the Production of Energy” presentation beginning at 7 p.m. in the Emporia Public Library.

The library and the league of Women Voters of Emporia are sponsors of the public symposium.

Speakers will be Bill Eastman from Westar Energy and Susan Stover from the Kansas Water Office.
