The cause of a house fire Saturday is undetermined, officials said this morning.
Fire Marshal Tom Andrews is in charge of the investigation of the fire, which destroyed an abandoned house at 1300 Road 190. The fire was reported at 9:40 p.m. Saturday. According to the Lyon County Sheriff’s Office, the landowner of the home, Steve Jacob, did not start the fire.
The fire was put out, but the home, which was last occupied in 1965, was completely destroyed. Fire crews were at the scene for about three hours.
Attempted rape
An investigation of an attempted rape Sunday monring is still continuing, according to the Emporia Police Department.
Emporia Police Officer Jim Tilton said an attempted rape was reported at 8:15 a.m. in the northeast part of Emporia. The victim said the suspect is a black man who left the area in an unknown type of vehicle.
Attempted robbery
Police are still investigating an aggravated attempted robbery that was reported early Saturday morning in Emporia.
Around 12:15 a.m., Emporia police officers responded to a report of an attempted robbery in the 1000 block of Mechanic Street, according to a press release by Sgt. David Devries, of the Emporia Police Department.
When officers arrived, they talked to the victim who reported a man approached him and demanded his wallet and car keys. After a brief physical confrontation, the victim got into his home. Police have released no description of the assailant.
