Commission told county budget still on track

Friday, April 11, 2008

Lyon County’s financial numbers are still relatively good, Lyon County commissioners were told at Thursday’s action session.

“The results through the first quarter are still really positive,” said Bob Agler, financial consultant at A & M Consulting.

Agler said while the numbers are good, there’s not a lot of padding.

“The budgets are tightened up,” he said. “Things are going to be closer. We won’t see a lot of fluff or large remaining balances in them.”

Overtime is over last year by about 10.6 percent.

“But logic tells me that it could have been worse, particularly with the pressure that has been put on your Road and Bridge. With the weather you’ve had, it’s pretty positive.”

The multi-year capital improvement fund’s budget is overspent by $93,000. This is largely because of unbudgeted expenditures that came out of the fund.

“With unbudgeted items, when we need to spend the money, this is where we go,” County Controller Dan Slater said. “We gotta watch those (funds) in multi-year though, because we need to keep it as healthy as we can.”

In other business:

- Commissioners did not take action on ordering 100 chairs for the Lyon County Annex, 402 Commercial St. They are allowing time for further study.

- Commissioners authorized facilities to employ George Groh & Sons to continue a roofing job on Lyon County Extension Office, 2632 W. Highway 50 in the amount of $15,900.

- Commissioners passed a proclamation designating May 11-17 as Nursing Home Week.

- No action was taken on signage for the Lyon County Extension Office. Commissioners will discuss the issue during the May 1 meeting.
