ESU prof honored
An Emporia State University faculty member has been recognized by a statewide group for his work in English-language learning.
Abdelilah Salim Sehloaui of ESU was one of six educators who, with one high school student, received recognition from the Kansas Association of Teachers of English to Speakers of Other Languages and Bilingual Educators. The group met for a conference in late March on the ESU campus.
Sehlaoui, who has been a teacher since 1985, was elected president of the Kansas organization for 2007-2008. He has been at ESU since 1999.
In a news release, the organization said, “He has prepared hundreds of outstanding ESL (English as a Second Language) teachers for Kansas.”
In addition to teaching, he is a co-author of five federal grants, totaling more than $6 million, in professional training for teaching speakers of languages other than English.
