Olpe students help
The Olpe High School Student Council is sponsoring the annual Community Service Day from 12:30 to 3:10 p.m. Monday in Olpe. Students will paint, wash windows, garden or do any other odd jobs. The students will provide the labor, but recipients must provide tools and supplies.
The assignments should be inside the Olpe city limits if possible.
Those who have work to be done may call Rebecca Fawcett or Marilyn Stueve at (620) 475-3223.
Main Street accredited
TOPEKA — Emporia Main Street has received its 2008 National Main Street Program accreditation, according to an announcement from Emporia Main Street Director Kayla Oney.
The Emporia program meets national commercial district basic performance standards set by the National Trust Main Street Center. Emporia Main Street is one of approximately 700 Main Street revitalization programs to receive the accreditation.
The Emporia program promoted many successful events during the year, Oney said, because of its volunteers’ broad base of support and commitment to the downtown and the Emporia community.
