Chase County softball starts season with 3-1 record

Wednesday, April 9, 2008

The Chase County softball team got its season off to a 3-1 start this past week with a doubleheader split with Moundridge before taking a two-game sweep over Burlington.

Last Tuesday, the Lady Bulldogs faced Moundridge. Chase County fell in the first game, 5-3, before bouncing back with a 14-13 victory in 10 innings in Game Two.

Taylor Rains took the loss in the circle in Game One, but she did have a home run to lead the way offensively.

In Game Two, Briana Talkington was the starting pitcher before turning it over to Kelly Hannigan late in the game.

Rains added another home run, while Kylee Scott had two triples and Erin Eidman added a triple of her own.

Then, last Friday, Chase County traveled to Burlington, where the Lady Bulldogs took the sweep, 5-0 and 13-2.

In the Game One shutout, Rains earned the victory as the starting pitcher and she added her third home run of the season to go with the victory. Scott also added a triple.

Hannigan and Davis had a similar statistic line, as each went 3-for-5 with four RBI. Starkey and Palermo both added two hits.
