All eyes have been on the University of Kansas basketball team as it has progressed through the NCAA basketball tournament.
With all the media attention, one has to wonder if the publi-city will help increase KU’s enrollment. Emporia State University President Michael Lane said it won’t. He said studies have shown that universities really don’t see enrollment increases as a result of being successful in the tournament, but it will increase financial giving from donors.
It is hard to believe the media attention doesn’t drive up enrollment numbers. But it’s a good sign that students are wise enough to base their college decision on more than just a successful and exciting basketball program.
Last night when KU won the national championship, there were really two winners. One was KU and other was the state of Kansas. The amount of nationwide publicity has been one of best advertisements for the state.
Congratulations to KU and the state of Kansas.
