Must file to get check

People who have not filed tax returns in recent years will not receive the scheduled economic-stimulus payments without applying for them.
“I just wanted everybody to be alerted to the fact that they must file a tax return in order to get their stimulus payment from the government,” said Maxine Gasso, office manager of Street Tax Service. “They just will not get it from the government without filing this form.”
The requirement applies primarily to retirees who have not needed to file tax returns because of lack of income, she said.
Gasso said that payments will not be sent out automatically to every citizen who qualifies for the money.
