SOS run/walk

Registrations are being accepted for the annual Light of Hope 5K Run/Walk to benefit SOS programs. The May 3 event will begin with registration at 8 a.m. and start of competition at 9 a.m. Awards will be given to the top male and female and to the top finishers according to age group.

Advance registration is $20 for people over 13 and $10 for those 13 and under. The day of the event, fees will be $25 and $15, respectively.

Hartford bridge to close

Kansas Highway 130 leading into Hartford will be closed from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. Friday for concrete placement of the new bridge deck. Traffic will detour via K-130, Interstate 35, US highway 50, Kansas Highway 99, County Road 151 and County Road 420.

Work on the remainder of the bridge replacement project will take place Monday through Friday during daylight hours. During the entire project, K-130 traffic will be restricted to one 12-foot lane through the work zone.

Newest businesses

Following a class, “Agritourism: Your Next Cash Crop?” held at Flint Hills Technical College, 13 new Emporia-area entrepreneurs registered this morning with the Kansas Department of Commerce in Topeka as new agritourism businesses. The workshop in Emporia was hosted by the Flint Hills Resource Conservation & Development Agency and the Kansas Small Business Development Center at Emporia State University.
