Lyndon boys, Heights girls win Lyndon Invitational

The Lyndon boys and the Northern Heights girls came away with the team titles at the Lyndon Invitational track and field meet last Friday.
On the boys side, Lyndon was led by a two-title day from Keene Niemack, as he won the triple jump and the 400-meter run. Niemack jumped 42 feet, 2 inches in the triple jump and finished the 400 in a time of 52.71 seconds.
As for the Northern Heights girls, they were paced by senior Jacquelyne Leffler’s three victories. Leffler won the shot put with a heave of 44-4 1/2, the discus with a toss of 142-1 and the javelin with a throw of 116-11.
The Lyndon boys finished with 104 team points, while Northern Heights was second (97) and Marais des Cygnes Valley was third (77). Other area teams were: Lebo (5th, 51), Chase County (6th, 40) and Burlingame (7th, 33).
The Northern Heights girls ended with 110 points, followed by West Franklin (83.5) and Southern Coffey County (70.5). Other area teams were: Burlingame (4th, 48), Chase County and Marais des Cygnes Valley (tied for 5th, 44), Lebo (6th, 38) and Lyndon (7th, 28).
Aside from Leffler’s three titles, the Northern Heights girls also won the 4x800 relay in a time of 11 minutes, 45 seconds.
Other area girls titles went to Chase County’s Julie Dorneker in the 1,600-meter and 3,200-meter runs in times of 5:59 and 12:43, respectively, and to Burlingame’s 4x100 relay team (55.43 seconds) and 4x400 relay team (4:37.96).
On the boys side, Lyndon also saw Dylan Filburn win the 800-meter run in a time of 2:09, while Lyndon’s 4x100 relay team won in a time of 45.56 seconds.
Northern Heights’ boys had five event titles on the day, with David Hanks winning both the shot put and the discus. Hanks had a distance of 45-1 3/4 in the shot and 132-7 in the discus.
Joel Young won the javelin title for Heights with a throw of 143-5, while the relay squads in the 4x800 (9:02) and the 4x400 (4:48.61) rounded out the championships for the Heights boys.
Chase County’s Aaron Wold won the high jump (5-8), while Alec Wold took the 100-meter dash title (11.53 seconds).
Marais des Cygnes Valley’s Chisom Spencer was a two-event champion, taking the long jump (19-1 1/2) and the 300-meter hurdles (43.43 seconds) titles. Teammate Brandon Litch also won the 3,200-meter run in a time of 11:19.
The area’s title winners were rounded out by Lebo’s Cameron Smith in the 200-meter dash (24.03) and by Burlingame’s Dustin Droege in the 1,600-meter run (5:19).
