Health Center loses top doctor

The Flint Hills Community Health Center will be down to one physician following the resignation of Medical Director Crystal Hill.

Lougene Marsh, executive director of the health center, said Hill’s last day is Friday. After that, Michael Mawdsley, the center’s pediatrician, will step in as medical director, Marsh said.

Marsh said Hill, who stepped up as medical director in September, has taken a job in Hutchinson, where she and her husband, Sam, will live.

Marsh said the center has known of Hill’s resignation for a while, but her position and contract had been mainly discussed in executive sessions.

Marsh said Mawdsley will be the only physician at the center following Hill’s resignation.

“That’s why we’re continuing to work on recruitment of another physician,” Marsh said.

In addition to Mawdsley, there are three mid-level health-care providers to help fill the gap until another physician is found. Mid-level providers include nurse practitioners and physicians assistants who are trained and qualified to provide some basic services usually performed by doctors.

“We will have a fourth mid-level coming at the end of May,” she said.

I think the center is down 2 doctors now - Hill and Dr. Carson who left last fall. And I think another is on maternity leave so a good story would be to find out how many doctors and nurses are left? There have been really long waits to see a doctor before Hill resigned. It's probably going to get even worse now.

Yep you are correct, they are down to two, well now ONE doctor. It has been crazy there and it just got worse. They cant find anyone who wants to come in and work? I know the nurses and dental assistants make great pay over there, doesnt that go for the doctors too? Cant we find local doctors who can donate time to aleviate the down falls and help them catch their breath?
