The 75th annual Kansas Junior Livestock Show was a hit this year. This year’s show saw a 20-year high in livestock numbers.
The show, which ran from Sept. 21-24 in Wichita, saw 700 Kansas youth, who exhibited 1,351 head of livestock. The show is sponsored by the Kansas Livestock Association, Kansas State University and the Wichita Chamber of Commerce.
The exhibitors stormed the Kansas Coliseum near Wichita with a planned 146 steers, 310 heifers, 468 hogs, 304 lambs, 39 ewes, 198 wether dams and 151 meat goats. The top five steers, hogs and lambs and the top two goats were sold during the KJLS Auction of Champions Monday. Participants typically use the money earned from selling the animals to help fund their college education or next year’s livestock project.
