In a do-or-die situation, the Northern Heights offense delivered, as Michael Glass’ two-point conversion run in overtime gave the Wildcats a 29-28 victory over Council Grove.
After Council Grove scored the first seven points in OT, Heights responded with a Glass 2-yard TD run to close the gap to 28-27.
Though he had the option to kick the extra point and send it to a second overtime, Heights co-coach Greg French huddled with his offensive players and ask them what they wanted to do.
They convinced him to go for the game-winning (or game-losing) 2-point conversion — a try made successful on a lead handoff to Glass.
“The offensive line was real excited about it,” Heights co-coach Tad Hatfield said. “They did well.”
Glass led the Wildcats offensively, rushing 21 times for 118 yards.
Meanwhile, quarterback Kenneth Bronson continued his stellar year, completing 19-of-29 passes for 223 yards and two scores.
The junior is 95-of-137 for 1,103 yards passing this season, adding 13 touchdowns and just four interceptions.
Roman Murray added four catches for 85 yards.
Heights (3-2) plays at West Franklin next week.

Marais des Cygnes
Valley 58, Wakefield 8
When you know you’ve got the best player on the field, you use him — a lot.
That’s exactly what Marais des Cygnes Valley coach Trenton Douglas did Friday night against Wakefield, riding the shoulders of running back Chisom Spencer to open up District play with a 50-point victory.
Spencer rushed for 287 yards and six touchdowns on just 20 carries.
“He was great,” coach Trenton Douglas said. “We blocked pretty well and he used his speed and got to the edge and made a lot of big plays.
“We understand that we’ve got to get the ball to our best kid, and he’s our best kid.”
Defensively, the Trojans were just as strong, limiting Wakefield to just 45 rushing yards on 22 carries en route to the mercy-rule victory.
“We played well defensively. They threw the ball on us and made some plays, but we played as well as we have,” Douglas said. “We’ve seen some outstanding teams to start this year, and now in that we’re in District play, we thing our defense will step up and be solid for us.”
