Twenty Emporia fifth- and sixth-grade students will serve as ambassadors for the William Allen White Children’s Book Award celebration on Saturday.
The Lowther Ambassador Program was created in 2006 to increase local interest and participation in the statewide White Award ceremony. The ambassadors will assist the event planning committee during the morning activities at Emporia State University and lead the parade from ESU to White Auditorium. More than 700 students from Kansas schools are expected to attend the celebration and awards ceremony.
The students were selected as ambassadors based on an application and short essay.
The Ambassador Program was coordinated by Jennifer Black, Lowther librarian, and Donna Young, library aide.
