After the Spartans turned the ball over on downs, Shawnee Heights drove 87 yards for a touchdown on a drive highlighted by a 63-yard run by Austin Flohrschutz. Flohrshutz capped the drive with a 13-yard TD run to make it 6-0 Shawnee Heights after the extra point attempt missed.
EHS held Shawnee Heights on fourth down at the 10-yard line with 16.6 second left in the half to go into halftime with Shawnee Heights leading, 6-0.
Flohrschutz struck again on Heights's first drive of the second half, ripping off a 68-yard burst before taking it in from 4 yards out to make it 14-0 after the Thunderbirds completed the two-point conversion.
Edd Noonan got Emporia on the scoreboard on its first possession of the second half, taking a handoff up the middle for a 26-yard touchdown that drew EHS to within a touchdown at 14-7 after Blaze Witten knocked through the extra point.
Noonan gave EHS the boost it needed with a 48-yard TD run with 1:30 left in the game to make it 14-13, and then Witten missed the extra point.
Shawnee Heights recovered the onside kick.
