City-county area planning commission update
Four requests approved

The Emporia-Lyon County Metropolitan Area Planning Commission unanimously took the following action at its meeting Tuesday night:
• Approved the final planned unit development for senior housing, requested by Maurice Schmidt, now with a 50-year flood requirement, which returns to the City Commission on Oct. 17 for final approval;
• Recommended the city change a track of land to heavy industrial from light industrial for a train spur for the REG biodiesel plant, to be discussed by the city on Oct. 17;
• OKed a request by Emporian Kevin Paige for a five-year conditional use permit to place a mobile home on agricultural land along 1800 Road E in order for Paige to build a home near there; issue goes to county commissioners on Oct. 10;
• Recommended a conditional use permit for a residential district for Mission La Esperanza to build a multipurpose building at the church at 201 S. Commercial St., to be taken up by the county on Oct. 17
