Emporia churches taking Angel Food orders this week

Three local churches will take orders for Angel Food boxes beginning Wednesday. The boxes cost $28 each, including a sales tax imposed recently by the Kansas Department of Revenue.
Angel Food boxes contain $65 to $75 worth of food, made up or fresh, name-brand products, according to sponsors. It does not include day-old or outdated food. Participants do not have to meet income guidelines to qualify for purchases.
Boxes that will be distributed in October will contain: four 5-ounce ribeye steaks, 3 pounds of breaded frying chicken, 2 pounds of salisbury steak entree with gravy, 24.5-ounce supreme pizza, 2 pounds of chicken chunks, a 24-ounce pork roast, 1 pound of chicken breast fajitas, 12 corn tortillas, 15 ounces of pork and beans, 1 pound of fresh carrots, 24 ounces of homestyle hashbrowns, 1 pound of corn, 1 pound of bean soup mix, 5.5 ounces of pancake mix, 7.5 ounces of macaroni and cheese, a 7-ounce lasagna dinner, and a dessert item.
Those who purchase a primary box also are eligible to buy any of four types of bonus boxes of meat or entrees. Box 1 will contain four 8-ounce T-bone steaks and a 2-pound ribeye roast; Box 2, four 8-ounce K.C. strip steaks and four 8-ounce New York strip steaks; and Box 3, a Golden Cuisine family convenience meal containing five entrees: cheese manicotti, macaroni and beef, beef patty and gravy, chicken and noodles, chicken breasts and mushroom sauce. Each box will include five breads, five containers of milk, 10 margarine cups and five desserts. The boxes cost $20 each.
Orders will be taken at:
Emporia Church of the Nazarene, 2931 W. 24th Ave. — Wednesday, 2 to 7 p.m.; Sept. 27 and 28, 2 to 6 p.m.; Sept. 29, 10 a.m. to 2 pa.m.
Grace United Methodist Church, 2 Neosho St. — Thursday, 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.; Friday, 2 to 6 p.m., and Saturday, 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.
Participants who use “Vision Cards” can place orders in the office at Grace from 9 a.m. until 3 p.m. on Mondays through Thursdays and from 9 a.m. until noon on Fridays.
Presbyterian Church, 802 Commercial St. — Thursday, 2 to 4 p.m.; Friday, 4 to 7 p.m.; and Saturday, 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.
Distributions will be Saturday, Oct. 13. Food must be picked up at the times designated by each site. Leftover boxes will be donated to charities.
Cash, money orders, food stamps, or “Vision Cards,” can be accepted as payment; personal checks cannot.
