The news wasn’t all bad for the Emporia State soccer team on Friday night in its 3-2 loss to Northwest Missouri State in Maryville, Mo.
ESU snapped a three-game scoreless string — one that lasted more than 300 minutes — with a Caitlin Riemer goal in the 18th minute on an assist from Alicia Smith.
Though that tied the score at 1, the Bearcats’ Amanda Deml responded with two goals of her own, extending NWMSU’s lead to 3-1.
Sarah Tetuan knocked in her third goal of the year in the 89th minute, scoring on Smith’s second assist of the game.
The Hornets (0-8, 0-4 MIAA) were outshot 24-10.
ESU keeper Megan Martin notched seven saves, which moved her over the 200-save mark in her career. The junior now has 203 saves in 29 matches played.
The Hornets continue their road trip at 2 p.m. today, taking on Truman in Kirksville, Mo.
