Emporia High’s Maryann Bennett had a breakthrough Wednesday, taking first place at the Topeka High girls golf invitational in Topeka.
Fueled by Bennett’s individual victory, the Emporia High girls took third as a team, finishing behind champion Seaman and runner-up Topeka High.
Bennett carded an 8-over 44 on the par-36 course, putting her four strokes ahead of the runner up, Reagan Domer, from Seaman.
Emporia High as a team finished with a score of 233. Seaman won the invitational with a team score of 216, while host Topeka High carded a total of 226. Shawnee Heights came in with a 249 to place fourth, followed by Hayden (255) and Washburn Rural (263).
