Lyon County commissioners voted to set a hearing date on a request by representatives of the Morris County Rural Water District to annex property just over the Lyon-Morris County line (northwest Lyon County) during this morning’s weekly action session.
The water district wants to add the property to their water district to serve two customers in Lyon County. The Morris County Rural District is only a mile away from the two customers who need service. The hearing will be held at 10 a.m., Oct. 18 in the Lyon County Commission chambers at the Lyon County Court House.
County Counselor Michael Halleran said a hearing will need to be held regarding the annexation, but Kansas statute does not require a legal publication. Publication would be required only if a new water district is being formed.
