How to help the Patriot Guard

Wednesday, September 19, 2007

LAST WEEK, fallen military hero Pvt. David Lane was laid to rest.

To ensure Lane’s funeral would not be disrupted by disrespectful picketers, more than 350 members of the Patriot Guard showed up to line Emporia’s streets with flags.

People around town talked about how inspiring it was to see the hundreds of men and women holding flags.

The Patriot Guard has been serving at soldiers’ funerals all across America for two years now, and it is a wonderful example of respect and kindness.

Last week, Emporia’s new Patriot Guard unit put out a call for help with supplies and the community responded. But they still have one more need — an enclosed trailer to hold their flags and supplies.

They hope to raise $3,000 for a 12-foot enclosed trailer. So far they have received $1,100 in donations. Let’s show our appreciation to the Patriot Guard by helping them raise the remaining $1,900.

Please send a donation today.

Checks can be sent to the Emporia Community Foundation at P.O. Box 1337, Emporia KS 66801. Make checks payable to Emporia Community Foundation / Patriot Guard Riders Fund. For information, call Fuller at 340-7526.
