Dead man identified
The Lyon County Sheriff’s department has released the name of a young man found dead under the Prairie Street overpass shortly after midnight Tuesday.
The body of Christopher A. Brackner, 18, was found lying between railroad tracks by Burlington Northern Santa Fe Railway personnel, who reported the incident to Emporia police at 12:13 a.m. Police, in turn, called the sheriff’s department, which has jurisdiction over an area on the west side of the bridge.
Brackner’s death apparently was a suicide, according to information from the sheriff’s office. Autopsy results are pending and the investigation is continuing.

I have faith that the sheriffs office can still screw this investigation up. It's sad that someone had to lose their life but it is even sadder that it had to happen in a jurisdiction that cares so little for the people they serve.

Blackshirt......why don't you just keep your trap shut. Unless you work for the Sheriff's Department you have no idea how it is ran or how hard the officers work. You sound like you have had a nice run in with them before......maybe that is why you are so bitter.

We need to focus our attention on the sad tragedy loss of this young child and quit bickering, and who are we to judge the sherriff's department ??? They are out there putting their lives in stake to protect us.... so we need to back off and give them the well earned respect that they deserve!!!!!

Suicide is an awful thing for a family to endure. I am so sad that someone so young decided to take his own life. My condolences to his family and friends.

Nope, not bitter and I have never had a "run-in" with the Sheriffs Office here or anywhere for that matter. I have, however had a chance to see how things work there, in Lyon County. In fact I have had the privelege to observe many Sheriffs Offices around the country operate. If you think that your local Sheriff has the publics best interest at heart, think again.

My sympathy to the family and friends of this poor young man. What a terrible loss.
Blackshirt, stay on the subject please. Our deputies are spread thin but have always been honest in their dealings with me and those I know. Keep up the good work!

Blackshirt, please don't use this tragedy as a springboard to air your opinion about the Sheriff. That department does a great deal of good work on a limited budget.
Blessings to the family that they will find the strength for dealing with this very difficult thing.

First of all, I agree with most of the posted comments. It's a tragedy that somebody decided to take his or her own life. My deepest sympathies to the person's parents/relatives.
Second....blackshirt....if you think you can run the Sheriff's Department any better, there is an election coming up .....just food for thought.
My apologies to everybody for the outburst toward blackshirt. he or she is obviously ignorant or they wouldn't speak that way about an organization they know nothing about.

Whether it be suicide, or another circumstance, I pray for the family and for the soul of the boy. So sad to see young people feel so lost.

Thank you to everyone who has defended the sheriff's department. These men/women work everyday on the roads and in our jails to keep us safe. Like any public service field, there are limitations on what they can do. You cannot expect answers overnight and you cannot always expect the answer to be clear cut. But what you can expect is that these men/women will go out there and work for lower wages/benefits to serve us the public and little recognition for what they do. SO THANK YOU TO ALL OF THE MEN/WOMEN IN PUBLIC SERVICE.
To the family of the young man, my thoughts and prayers go out to you, and I hope that you will find answers and will be able to find the strength to move on from this horrible tragedy.

i knew this boy..... i walked in the halls at my school and saw him nearly everyday... i feel horrible guilty now that i never just stopped and said hello, i mean... i have talked to him before, but i never got to know him, and now i will never gt the chance. i hope everyone in my school who picked on him or bullied him feels disgusted with themselves. i send all my sympathies and well wishes to his family, and i pray for them as well. this has been a horrible and sad awakening for me about how fast a life can be gone without even saying goodbye...

I think that the police need to look at everything. I heard that it was not how they are saying it happenened and he was not the only one there. I feel very upset that emporia police hide sooo much stuff that goes on in this town. Maybe if they let people know whats going on then we all could have are eyes open. I have two boys and would hate to think that someone seen something. and wouldn't say anything. I'm senden all my sympathy to his family . And all my prays for all his family too.
