Emporia duo places 2nd at partner tourney
Emporians Jim and Lynda O’Mara finished second in last weekend’s Kansas Women’s Golf Association Partner Tournament at Hesston Golf Park.
The duo finished second in net score behind Ozawkie’s Jan and Dale Wiley.
The tournament is a two-day four-ball/scramble event with teams made up of KWGA members and their male partners.
The O’Mara’s had rounds of 88 and 76 in four-ball and 64 and 65 in the scramble format.
Chase County volleyball drops 4 matches
The Chase County volleyball team dropped matches to Lebo and Olpe on Sept. 11 and two more to Osage City and Madison on Sept. 13.
Against Lebo, Ashley Cahoone had two kills, and Breanne Davis added 37 sets with two assists.
In the Lady Bulldogs’ 25-27, 25-12, 25-14 loss to Olpe, Cahoone posted six kills and two aces.
Kylee Scott and Taylor Rains chipped in four kills apiece.
Cahoone contributed four kills against Osage City on Sept. 13, while Kylee Scott notched four kills against Madison.

softball team
improves to 4-0
The Emporia CARSTAR softball team kept its perfect record intact in Ken Berry’s Topeka League, taking two victories last weekend.
In the first game, pitcher Cassandra Huth recorded her second win of the season in Emporia’s 4-1 triumph. Huth struck out seven and walked none.
Emporia committed no errors and catcher Lanae Wells threw out the only runner trying to steal.
Lacie Schumann had the only extra-base hit: a double off the center-field fence.
Emporia played solid defense behind starter Abby Hamel in its 4-2 victory in Game Two.
Hamel allowed only five hits to pick up the win.
Huth led the offense, going 2-for-3. Maryann Bennett, Lauren Kimble, Schumann and Wells all contributed hits of their own.
