The United Way of the Flint Hills will kick off its 2007 fund drive with a lunch on Wednesday. At the lunch, organizers will announce this year’s goal and introduce some of the people who benefit from United Way support.
The event will begin at 11:45 a.m. at Webb Lecture Hall in the Memorial Union at Emporia State University. Lunch costs $10. For tickets, call the United Way at 342-7564.
At the lunch, organizers will introduce Americus eighth-grader Colby Hayes and his “big brother” from the Big Brothers/Big Sisters organization, which benefits from the fundraising of the United Way.
The event is the beginning of the general campaign for 2007, but 27 “pacesetter” companies have been working for about a month to raise money before the campaign’s official start. Traditionally, the United Way receives at least half of its campaign goal from the pacesetters.
