Parent-Teacher Conferences Set Before First-Quarter End

Friday, September 14, 2007

Parent-teacher conferences will be held earlier this year in the Emporia Public Schools.

Fall conferences will be held Sept. 26 and 27, two weeks before the end of the first-quarter grading period. Parents will not receive grade cards during conferences, but they will learn how their children are doing in their classes and if changes are needed to improve achievement.

Conferences will be held on the evening of Sept. 26 and all day and in the evening of Sept. 27 at all of the schools. Some schools may also schedule evening conferences earlier in the week. Parents should receive information from the school about the specific schedule. Students will not attend school Sept. 27 and 28.

The earlier conferences were recommended by the District Calendar Committee when the 2007-2008 calendar was adopted by the board of education. The purpose of the earlier schedule is to keep parents better informed about their children’s progress in school and avoid surprises at the end of the quarter when grades are mailed. Parents are encouraged to bring any questions or concerns to discuss with the teacher. Spanish interpreters will be at all of the schools to assist parents.

Parents who have not received a schedule should contact the school. Anyone who cannot attend at the scheduled time is asked to call the school for another appointment.
