Forcing out the Klan
The “Sundays in September” events at the William Allen White home continue this Sunday with “History on the Porch,” a presentation on White’s campaign to drive the Ku Klux Klan out of Kansas. The program starts at 2 p.m. at the home, 927 Exchange St., and will be presented by Emporia State University graduate student Lacey Whetstone.
The programs are offered by the William Allen White Community Partnership and the Kansas State Historical Society. The series will continue each Sunday through Sept. 30.
Tours of the home are $5 for adults, $3 for seniors and $2 for students. Those who wish to see the programs without touring the home may make a donation if they wish.
‘Tosca’
The Kansas Concert Opera, a new company founded by Emporia’s Stanford Felix, will present its debut performance Sept. 28 with Puccini’s “Tosca.”
The performance is a concert opera, meaning the music is presented without sets or staging and the singers wear normal concert dress instead of costumes.
The initial showing will be at 7:30 p.m. Sept. 28 at the Lawrence Arts Center. On Sept. 30, “Tosca” will come to Emporia performing at 3 p.m. at Beach Music Hall on the Emporia State University campus.
Tickets for the Emporia performance are $10 for adults and $5 for students and seniors. The Lawrence concert tickets will be $12 for adults and $8 for students and seniors. Tickets may be bought at the door or by mail. Mail purchases should be made by Thursday from Stanford Felix, Kansas Concert Opera, 817 Market St., Emporia KS 66801. Checks should be made to Stanford Felix.
