In its first action as a new program at Emporia Middle School, the seventh-grade volleyball team picked up one win out of four matches Monday night.
The lone victory came with the “B” team’s 2-1 win over Shawnee Heights (25-15, 12-15, 18-16). Against Washburn Rural, the Lady Vikings “B” team suffered a loss in straight sets, 25-12, 25-5.
As for the “A” team, it encountered a tough Washburn Rural squad in its first match. The Lady Vikings struggled with their serve receive and lost the match, 25-12, 25-9. The varsity squad then faced Shawnee Heights. It was a close contest on the court and seemed as if the Lady Vikings might pull it together for the win, but communication problems plagued EMS, and Shawnee Heights won the match, 25-22, 25-19.
