Holmes reception
The public is invited to a “Going-Away Reception” for Brenda Holmes from 1 to 4 p.m. Thursday at the meeting room in the old courthouse. Holmes, director for the Retired Senior Volunteer Project, is moving from the Emporia area. Elevator service is just inside the Commercial Street entrance and parking is available at Fourth Avenue and Mechanic Street. Hosts are Ginny Graham, chairman of the board for the Council on Aging; Doug Stueve, director for the Department on Aging; Judy Parks, director of Special Projects and Betty Rathke.
Emporia City Commission
The Emporia City Commission will meet for a non-voting study session at 10 a.m. Wednesday in the city conference room, 521 Market St. The commission will:
• Discuss bids on the South Avenue sidewalk projects.
• Discuss regulations for shooting ranges.
• Discuss setting up a Lake Kahola Foundation.
• See a presentation on dogs riding in the back of trucks.
• Review proposals to do a wage-and-benefits study for the city.
• Review the survey results for requiring projects to be complete within 12 months.
Afterward, commissioners will have lunch with the Natural Resources Advisory Board at noon in the city conference room.
Emporia Public Library
The Library Board of the Emporia Public Library meets at 4:15 p.m. Wednesday in the large meeting room at 110 E. Sixth Ave. The agenda includes such items as budget, finance, administrative and committee reports and reports from Sherry Watkins of Friends of the Library, Jack Havenhill of the North Central Kansas Library System and Jesse Solis of Diversity Outreach. New business items include a circulation policy and a laptop computer training lab.
Olpe City Council
The OIpe City Council will meet at 7 p.m. Wednesday at city hall. The council will appoint a grant administrator after reviewing applications and will also vote on an engineering contract.
Neosho Rapids hearing
The City of Neosho Rapids will hold a public hearing at 7 p.m. Wednesday at the city community building. Specific project applications to be discussed are improvements to a sanitary sewer treatment and collection system. The regular council meeting will be held after the public hearing.
Neosho Rapids Community Projects
The Neosho Rapids Community Projects will meet at 6 p.m. on Sept. 16 at the Neosho Rapids Jones Park. The agenda includes Hartford Harvest Day and Christmas activities.
Neosho Rapids PTO
The Neosho Rapids PTO will meet at 7 p.m. Sept. 17 in the school library. Items on the agenda include the taco supper, follow-up on Open House and by-laws. Free child care is provided.
