Allen family

The Oliver Allen family reunion was held July 15 at the Gage Park shelter house in Topeka. A basket dinner was served at noon.

A prize was given to the oldest person in attendance, Kenneth Fuller of Emporia; the youngest person, Eyan Karr of St. George; the one with the most children, Karen Karr of Americus; and the one who traveled the longest distance, Carol Culver of Wilder, Idaho.

Others attending from out of state were Leslie Allen and J.J. Leyba of Tucson, Ariz.; and Dave and Anna Kidwell, Brooke and Callie Ann, of Louisvile, Ky.

Those attending from Kansas were Deni Karr and Jackson, of Pittsburg; Ardene Hawks of Shawnee; Jennifer Abbott of Overland Park; Jasmine Heitmann, Lyric Douglas and Julie Haase of Newton; Marc and Sonja Parry and Cortney of Holton; Krystal Thompson of Muscotah; David and Wendy Karr and Morgan of Olathe; Gregg and Janti Karr and Nicolas and Eyan, of St. George; Karen and Mickey Karr of Americus; Brad Karr and Elizabeth, Jennifer and Michael, of Allen; Kenneth and Carlene Fuller of Emporia; and Margaret Fry, Robert Allen, Susan Schulte, Anjanette and Mark Aldridge, Cash Fry, April Timmons, Kathy Fry, Jesse Heitmann, Alicia Allen and Kaleb, and Sheryl Allen, all of Topeka.

Fowler family

The Fowler family reunion was held Sept. 2 at Camp Alexander. The reunions were started more than 70 years ago, held originally in the 1400 block of Road R, “just down the road from the ‘home place,’” according to the reunion reporter. The reunions were later held at the grape arbor in Peter Pan Park and then, approximately 40 years ago, at Camp Alexander.

There were 88 family members at this year’s reunion.

Out-of-state attendees were Jim and Leona Rupert of Plano, Texas; Joe and Peg Fowler of Lamar, Colo.; Marianne Keller of Colorado Springs, Colo.; Barbara Fowler Lamborn of Canon City, Colo.; Jeff and Bambi Lamborn of Penrose, Colo.; and Pamela Littleton and Emma Shockley of Oklahoma City, Okla.

Attending from Kansas were Larry and Patti McGee of Paola; Ron, Kim, Shane and Brady Fowler of Derby; Jane and Betsy Verhoeff of Dodge City; Mary, Jim, Mesha, Levi Macky and John Longwith of Kansas City; Betty Knoll, Bob Wayman, John Paul Wayman, John, Laurie and James and Rachael Wayman, all of Topeka; Lindsey, Cory, Erin and Lola Emley of Overland Park; Paul and Roberta Thompson of Shawnee; Courtney, Mark, Piper and Paige Fowler of Manhattan and Kerri Owen of Hartford.
