It’s not even fall yet, but the Emporia Area Chamber of Commerce is already making plans for Christmas.
Entries now are being accepted for Emporia’s 30th annual Christmas parade, to be held Nov. 27. The theme is “Hometown Christmas.”
All entries must be turned in by 5 p.m. Nov. 9. Forms can be picked up in the chamber offices at 719 Commercial St. or printed from its Web site www.emporiakschamber.org., under the tab “Applications and Forms.”
Once complete, the forms may be mailed or hand-delivered to the office or faxed to 342-3223.
Entry guidelines are available on the Web site, also under “Applications and Entry Forms.” In particular, candy, prizes and other novelty items may not be thrown or distributed by parade entrants and no entrant may include Santa Claus on their float — the chamber will arrange for him separately.
Festivities will start at 6:30 p.m. in front of the Cable One office, 714 Commercial St., with a Christmas message, musical performances and a lighting ceremony by Mayor Julie Johnson.
The parade will start at 7 p.m. at Fourth Avenue and proceed up Commercial Street to 12th Avenue.
Any entries to be judged must be lined up by 5:45 p.m. Bands will not be judged.
Cable One will broadcast the parade live on Channel 20.
