Goessel blows past Hartford

Monday, September 10, 2007

The Hartford Jaguars lost for the first time this season Friday night, dropping a 52-12 decision to Goessel on Goessel’s home field.

Despite 121 yards rushing by Cody Barrett, 119 receiving yards by Storm Cartee and 135 passing yards and two passing TDs by Adam Ewy, the Jaguars (1-1) could only find the end zone twice against the powerful Goessel defense.

Goessel took a 14-0 lead after the first quarter with a 7-yard TD run by Dustin Peterson and a 73-yard pass hookup from Austin Unruh to Weston Hiebert.

Goessel scored three more times in the second quarter, including two more scores on big plays — a 48-yard run by Unruh and a 68-yard kickoff return by Craig Banman.

Hartford scored all of its points in the second quarter, with Ewy twice connecting for TDs through the air to Cartee. Both two-point conversions failed, and Hartford trailed at the half, 38-12.

Goessel cruised in the second half, scoring two more touchdowns to make it 52-12.

Ethan Beemer led the Hartford defense with seven tackles, while Logan Grider intercepted a pass and recovered a fumble in addition to making five tackles.

Hartford plays its first home game of the year Friday against Marais des Cygnes Valley.
