Burlington

The Coffey County Republican recently reported that Coffey County Commissioners revised landfill fees for the Coffey Sanitary Landfill and Construction and Demolition Landfill.

The new rates are: $15 per ton on solid waste for in-county waste and $24 per ton for out-of-county waste; $1 for passenger tires, $2 for passenger tires on rims, $5 for truck tires, $10 for truck tires on rims, $15 for rear tractor tires, $30 for off-road tires; $15 for permitted industrial waste for a 55-gallon barrel; $12.50 per ton for in-county construction and demolition waste and $21.50 per ton for out-of-county waste.

Burlington

The Coffey County Housing Authority has $66,000 available to Coffey County residents for home rehabilitation projects.

The Coffey County Republican reported that the funds are available from a $50,000 USDA Rural Development Grant for housing preservation and 33 percent matching funds — $16,660 — from Coffey County.

According to a representative from Coffey County Housing Authority, Coffey County residents can apply for a maximum of $4,000 in grant money to make repairs to their home. Guidelines include income qualifications, up-to-date real estate taxes and home insurance.

Madison

The Madison News reported that the Madison Public Library will sponsor children’s author Lisa Campbell Ernst on Sept. 19 at the Madison Library.

The visit is made possible through the June Monnard Sauder bequest. Three groups of children will visit the library to hear the author/illustrator’s presentation.
