An Emporia soldier was killed Tuesday when an improvised explosive device exploded outside Rustamiyah, Iraq.
David J. Lane, 20, was one of three soldiers who died when the IED exploded near the Humvee in which they were patrolling. Lane’s parents, David and Maria Lane, were notified about 4 p.m. Tuesday.
Lane joined the Army about one year ago and had been stationed in Iraq since February, according to his mother. He had been serving with Charlie 216 company out of Fort Riley.
