An Emporia soldier was killed Tuesday when an improvised explosive device exploded outside Rustamiyah, Iraq.
David J. Lane, 20, was one of three soldiers who died when the IED exploded near the Humvee in which they were patrolling. Lane’s parents, David and Maria Lane, were notified about 4 p.m. Tuesday.
Lane joined the Army about one year ago and had been stationed in Iraq since February, according to his mother. He had been serving with Charlie 216 company out of Fort Riley.

Many prayers to all of the family and friends. His life was lost defending our nation and that in itself makes him our hero. My family appreciates his service and what his family has lost in the process.
