Madison opens season with 48-0 whitewashing of Centre

The Madison Bulldogs began their season strong by defeating Centre, 48-0, on its home field Friday night.
Madison senior running back Michael Luthi, who is the Bulldogs’ feature back this season, led his team in rushing with seven carries for 47 yards. Following him were Caleb Hamilton with three carries for 39 total yards and Eric Porter with four for 30 yards. Porter also paced Madison in passing by going 2-for-2 for a total of 54 yards through the air.
Madison (1-0) jumped all over Centre in the first quarter, scoring three touchdowns and a safety to burst out to a 26-0 lead after one period.
“We played pretty good for our opening game,” Madison assistant coach Barry Schultz said. “We saw some real positive things, and we saw some things we needed to work on.”

Waverly 52, Marais des
Cygnes Valley 28
The two-time defending 8-Man Division I State champions, the Waverly Bulldogs, began their second title defense Friday night with a 52-28 victory over Marais des Cygnes Valley.
MdCV was plagued by a slow start, not scoring until the second quarter, by which time Waverly had a 28-0 lead. It wasn’t until the second half that the MdCV boys came alive, scoring a total of 22 points in the third and fourth quarters combined.
Helping the Trojans was Chisom Spencer, who rushed 23 times for 189 yards, while Brandon Litch completed 4 of 8 passes for a total of 61 yards.
“Waverly played extremely well,” MdCV head coach Trenton Douglas said. “We played much better in the second half, but they were deserving to win.”
Leading the way for Waverly was Dakota Foster, who scored four of the team’s nine touchdowns, rushing for 183 yards on 27 carries.
