After leading the Emporia High football team to its 34-33 come-from-behind victory over third-ranked Junction City last Friday, EHS senior running back Edd Noonan has been nominated for the U.S. Army Iron Man award, which honors the best two-way high school football player in Kansas each week.
In helping the Spartans to the Class 6A District 5 title, Noonan rushed for 206 yards and two touchdowns — including the game winner — on 43 carries while also playing every down on defense. Noonan tallied a sack and recovered a fumble on defense.
Noonan is nominated with Riley County’s Jase Hartenbower, Topeka High’s John Babb, Bishop Miege’s Josh Kearney, Lawrence Free State’s Nolan Peters and Lansing’s Justin Smith.
