Red Ribbon week schedule

Friday, October 26, 2007

Emporian for Drug Awareness also will co-sponsor a Town Hall Meeting at 7 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 30, in the Kanza Room at ESU’s Memorial Union. Other sponsors are the Emporia school district’s Safe & Drug Free Schools, Flint Hills Technical College and Emporia State University.

The meeting will feature a panel of experts that will answer questions and provide information about understage drinking, social hosting laws, and local issues. Panel members are: Holly K. Baker of Kansas City, State Sen. Jim Barnett, Michelle Voth of Kansas Family Partnership and Joe Garmen of the Kansas department of Alcoholic Beverage Control.

“(Baker) has a compelling story about drinking and driving that ended in the death of one of her best friends,” said EDA director Mike Crouch.

Some schools and classes have planned their own special events for Red Ribbon Week. The theme for this year is “Look at Me; I’m Drug-Free.”

The week’s agenda for EDA-sponsored events is:

- Sunday, Religious Day and Eagles Carnival

- Monday, Pledge Day, with ribbons passed out in schools

- Tuesday, “Not in Our House” Day

- Wednesday, “Drugs Are Scary” Day

- Thursday, “Wear Red” Day

- Friday, “Family Day”

- Saturday, “Guys ’N Gowns” fundraiser

More information may be had by calling EDA at 341-2450.
