Against all odds, the Emporia High Spartans are headed to this year's 6A football State Tournament.
EHS defeated No. 2-ranked Junction City 34-33 on Friday night in Junction City, coming back from a 33-15 deficit midway through the third quarter.
Mark Kolmer provided a key blocked punt, and Edd Noonan scored the go-ahead touchdown with under two minutes remaining.
The EHS defense held Junction City off the scoreboard to secure the win.
The Spartans still would have been left out of the State Tournament if Wichita Heights had defeated Manhattan.
The Indians helped out EHS, though, holding on for a 15-10 upset victory over Heights.
The two results means gives the Spartans the District 5 Championship. It will be the first trip to State for EHS since 2002.
The Spartans will play host to a playoff game next Friday.
Noonan finished with 41 carries for 206 yards.
