What’s the life of a politician like? Emporia State University’s Associated Student Government organization plans to explore that question with a panel of state legislators and other government officials in an “Ask a Politician” forum slated for 7 p.m. Nov. 5 at in the Memorial Union Ballroom.
State legislators planning to attend include State Reps. Don Hill and Peggy Mast of Emporia and Jerry Williams of Chanute and State Sens. Jim Barnett of Emporia, Carolyn McGinn of Sedgwick, Stephen Morris of Hugoton and Laura Kelly and Anthony Hensley, both of Topeka.
In addition, two current members of the Kansas Board of Regents will participate in the panel discussion. Christine Downey-Schmidt, Regents chairperson, and Gary Sherrer, former lieutenant governor, will attend.
Panelists will answer questions submitted in advance, and then will take written questions from the audience. A reception will follow.
The panel is being formed by Jonathan Krueger, ASG’s legislative director.
“We want to engage students and encourage them to get involved with politics or other civic activities,” said Krueger, explaining the idea behind the forum.
