Marjorie Winzeler will celebrate her 90th birthday with a reception from 2 to 4 p.m. Sunday at the Sauder Community Center in Madison. Her actual birthday in Oct 30. Cards may be sent to her at 116 S. Third, Madison, KS 66860. There is a request for no gifts, only “your presence.” The incorrect day was given in the notice published Tuesday in About Town.
Bioenergy and water issues
A forum about bioenergy and its effects on water issues in Kansas will be in Emporia on Dec. 5. During the conference, officials from bioenergy industries and the Kansas Water Office will discuss the history and growth of the ethanol industry, state insicentives, current water recourse conditions and water law.
Adrian Polansky, Kansas secretary of agriculture, will talk about the 2007 Farm Bill and its impact on bioenergy development, and Kansas Rep. Tom Moxley will address the group.
Audience participation will be encouraged and afternoon topics include those of local interest. In Emporia, that will be planning consideration for energy production. Other conferences will be held in Garden City and Hays.
There is no cost to attend the event, but registration is required and limited to the first 100 people. The deadline to register is Nov. 15. Youth deer hunt
Youths age 12 to 18 wanting to hunt deer during a youth hunt at Wolf Creek need to apply for the 12 spots. The event, sponsored by Wolf Creek Nuclear Operating Corp. and the Wolf Creek Green Team, will be on the weekend days of the regular deer firearm season, Dec. 1, 2, 8 and 9.
To be eligible, youth hunters must not have harvested a deer before and must be accompanied by a responsible adult guardian. Before the hunt, all successful applicants must obtain a deer permit for Unit 11 and meet any other licensing requirements. They also must attend a pre-hunt safety seminar on Nov. 24 at Wolf Creek.
