ESU’s Rossbach, Liu earn athlete of the week

Emporia State cross country runner Jonel Rossbach and volleyball player Ting Liu both took MIAA athlete of the week honors, the conference announced Monday.
Rossbach became the ninth woman in league history to claim two MIAA cross country championships, winning the conference meet by more than 35 seconds on Saturday in Kirksville, Mo. She finished the six-kilometer race in a time of 22:06.65.
Liu took her third MIAA specialist of the week honor after averaging 13.5 assists and 2.42 digs per game last week. She also added 18 kills and a .361 attack percentage.
The freshman had 61 assists in ESU’s victory over No. 15 Pittsburg State on Saturday and notched a triple-double with 60 assists, 10 digs and 10 kills in the Hornets’ 3-1 win Friday against Missouri Southern.
ESU volleyball moves to No. 19 in new poll
On the strength of a six-match winning streak, the Emporia State volleyball team moved up two spots to No. 19 in the latest AVCA Division II volleyball poll.
The Hornets will face two top-10 teams in their final four matches this season, playing both No. 5 Washburn and No. 6 Truman.
ESU (22-6, 8-2 MIAA) will have its next match Thursday at home against Fort Hays State.
